I rarely meet truly incompetent managers, only those who are significantly undertrained. What shocks me is that they then don't undertake that training.

Since my own experience has been that of the stalled employee - someone continuously operating at a much, much higher level than the title on my badge because I have to "prove" my skills well in advance - I am normally training hard for the next level years before officially doing it.

That then, time and again, leaves me in the uncomfortable position of having more training and experience than the managers above me.

With their skills gaps thus exposed, they then act resentfully and defensively, rather than, you know, learning the stuff.
