I'm going to use the porn example. I have great respect for adult performers - they are, essentially, athletes - but they're typically people who chose that industry because it was that or stacking shelves and this paid more.
When you have high-value skills and a great deal of experience in flexing them, work is less about making sure there's a roof over your head and more about having fun.
You choose the type of company where you can make friends. You look for people you like and want to spend time with. Remember: you can pretty much work anywhere, so you're interviewing them. You look for a place where they're solving real needs and provide you with a sense of purpose.
Hell, even in the porn industry, the star performers pick and choose projects to show off their acting range or with people they like to spend time with.
For the star performers in any industry, the pay needs to be enough but it's not about that. You'd probably even take a pay cut if the rest of the deal was good enough.
You need the financial sense to make and retain profits, but it's a hygiene factor: the core basic level of what is needed to be a company. If you want to attract A-game talent, you need to be more than that.
If you're going to be a purposeful company, your values need to be authentic - not Disney Girlboss tokenism, but Jordan Peele reality. Films like 'Get Out' and 'Us' resonate so hard because they fulfil the basic needs (entertain us) while helping us to grow into a better version of ourselves.
It's your responsibility to do the same.
