It's important to remember that 'gifted' is just a stats boost during chargen. In other words, when you start a new character in a video game, you 'roll the dice' and your character starts off with certain attributes - maybe more strength, maybe more agility, and maybe more intelligence. This has a big effect during your first few levels, but once you hit level 10, it all starts to even out.
You might start off with a 'gimped build' - like weak Archery when you want to wield a bow. At first, this makes things difficult, but with deliberate practice, you can still wield that bow - perhaps, just as well as someone with stronger starting stats.
If you do have particular strengths, it's important to nurture them, but don't get too hung up on them, and certainly don't fall into the fixed mindset ego trap (which makes it tempting to give up too quickly through fear of failure).
Your kid is 'gifted' in that they're a gift to your life. They may be advanced in some areas, not so much in others, but the less glamorous world of diligent practice is the real key to their success.
