I’ve heard that argument a lot and I work for a company where hundreds of roles ARE outsourced.

One of the first things you learn in marketing or business studies is that your business is only viable if you can defend a niche of competitive advantage based on inimitable capabilities. If you are the only person selling blue widgets, not only will people wanting a blue widget buy from you, but they will pay more to do so.

Where you have generic commodities, it’s a race to the bottom on price until nobody is making any money.

So, if you can say, “There is NOBODY else on the planet with my unique combination of valuable skills and experience,” then you need never fear unemployment. If you can’t say that, then it’s a better use of time to gain new skills than fear being replaced.
