I've thrown in the 'what do you expect this button to do' question in unmoderated usability testing, followed up with a 'did anything about it surprise you?' question after engaging with said feature, but it never occurred to me to solve for accidental validation.

Then again, the context (unmoderated usability testing) was slightly different, so I would expect the users' needs to be well understood by then!
