Ruinous advice for all but the already rich.

  1. You should always have enough in cash (the bank) to tide you over several months of unemployment. Keep your debts affordable, but prioritise emergency savings.
  2. Then consider your age. The closer you are to retirement, the less you will want to risk.
  3. Remember that you can lose everything. Only bet what you can afford to lose.
  4. Read about past financial crashes. Nobody who knew about 1929 would have piled into property in the 00s.
  5. A house is a home. Never bet the roof over your head.

You will likely never be rich following my advice. You will also likely never be homeless or bankrupt.
