Something about this bothered me, so I thought on it and realised: this division is what They want. You know, the Russians that want four more years of Trump. United we stand, divided we fall, so they divide and conquer.

Which isn't, of course, to say that the grievances are unfounded. Lord knows there's truth to this, and I can see that from 4,000 miles away.

I also see the white person's pain: we want to do the right thing and think of ourselves as good people, but stain us with original sin and we don't know what to do. Where's the path to redemption?

Ah, but you say, you HAVE sinned: your ancestors were ... starving in a field in Ireland at the time, no doubt. The victims, not the oppressors. But you looked at me and saw only White.

It's like the white girl's feminism of the last decade: All Men.

No, not all men, not even most men. Which, again, isn't to say there was no legitimate grievance: the whole frat culture needs to be demolished; I can see that from 4,000 miles away.

You ended up with men and women hating and fearing each other, unable to form any kind of healthy relationship, until Covid forced everyone to just ... talk.

Realise their humanity.

You look at me and see White. Until 50 years ago, I wouldn't have been allowed into the pub. No Dogs, no Blacks, no Irish. The ludicrousness and arbitrariness of social pecking orders literally written on the door.

But times change - yes, yes, they really do - and suddenly we can find ourselves in the comfy seat, benefiting from systems that weren't designed for us.

So, yes, I benefit. I understand my privilege - but it's just "being accepted as part of the in-group" and we need to expand our definition of "in-group" to the whole of humanity and stop shutting people out.

United, we stand.
