That's how people get to their first hit product: "I want this so everyone else will want this too". There is no illusion - over 90% fail - but a small number luck out and happen to create something that coincides with the needs of their customers.

They are then unable to ever replicate that success because they have never learned how to sell what customers want to buy. This is why three quarters of fast-growing companies fail within the first few years.
