There are different types of crying, too. I rarely sob, but frequently leak. The former is an active expression — a howl of pain. The latter is simply releasing stress, and is an empathic response, usually because I am watching a film. I do it frequently, and feel better for it.
I don’t gasp or whimper, just let a couple of tears spill down and then halt naturally, like the end of rain when the clouds no longer feel heavy.
It’s good for me, so I don’t worry about it, but if someone seems alarmed by it, I say, “Don’t mind me, I cry at infomercials!” and giggle.
