This. This is the alternative to crony feudalism, not communism (a beautifully-observed My Little Pony episode explains that one, or its clear inspiration, Animal Farm).

Social Democracy, as demonstrated by the US in the 1930s-80s and Europe from post-WWII to now, is the closest economic system to "ideal", supporting innovation and technological progress while simultaneously supporting the health, growth and happiness of all of its citizens.

In the UK, we might look at the current problems - themselves caused by exploitation and corruption on a global scale - but we shudder at the plight of the Victorians.

At least we have free universal education age 3-18, free universal healthcare, state pensions, sickness benefits, humane conditions for workers, and a minimum wage. They might be imperfect and often threatened, but they're vastly preferable to life without them.
